CardioAid? Plant Sterols
Protecting the Heart, Naturally
Heart disease and stroke are two of the leading causes of death. High cholesterol contributes to both, yet high cholesterol causes no symptoms. Savvy consumers—with and without a family history of heart disease—are reaching for foods and beverages that contribute to a heart healthy diet. Our understanding of how to extract the best from plants, plus our mastery of product formulation, reliable supply and quality assurance, mean foods and beverages consumers will heart.
With more consumers than ever before choosing flexitarian diets, and adding more plant-based foods into their everyday food and beverage choices, plant sterols just make sense for everyday wellness and heart health concerns.
More than 50 years of scientific study has proved plant sterols can significantly lower cholesterol levels. In fact, the FDA has authorized the claim that: “Foods containing at least 0.4 gram per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least .8 gram, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.” Incorporating CardioAid? plant sterols into foods and beverages helps consumers lower cholesterol.
How does it work? When we eat foods that contain dietary cholesterol (which is found in animal products like meat and eggs), our intestinal tract absorbs that cholesterol and puts it into the bloodstream. Plant sterols are chemically similar to dietary cholesterol found in animal products. When plant sterols travel through the digestive tract, they get in the way of dietary cholesterol being absorbed into the bloodstream. Less total cholesterol is absorbed by the body when plant sterols are present.
